Living with Dinosaurs

Love me tender..

I loved this TV film as a kid. A cuddly toy dinosaur who is fanatical about Elvis Presley. I guess it is a coming of age drama and it is done beautifully. ‘Dog’ the dinosaur is adorable and a credit to Brian Henson.

Storyline is subtle but charming in itself with a young lad struggling with family life and School bullies.

I can never find this short film anywhere to purchase or stream. If anyone knows where it can be found please let me know.

I remember my Dad having this on VHS which he recorded off the telly. For some reason, it was recorded on the end of the TV film, The Woman in Black. I had to forward it to the right part and remember catching the end of the Woman in black and being slightly unsettled. 🙂 I also wrote Liveing with dinosaurs on the video label, instead of living with dinosaurs. Of course, completely different types of films!

I will write about the TV version of the woman in black on another post as this seems to have been lost in the past as well.

Jonathan Creek

The well know classical introduction theme tune to Jonathan Creek, a perfect tune to fit the TV show. Although this is still shown on a certain channel, I wanted to express my joy with this series which I remember watching many moons ago and being complete indulged. The plots and writing are brilliant and I don’t think I ever worked out any of the mysteries of each episode.

The subtle humour is perfect and loved all the actors but Alan Davies suited Jonathan and I could not imagine anyone else playing this part.

Certainly a series to cosy up with on a rainy dull evening, particular winter time.

I find it hard to choose my favourite episode as they are all so unique and good in their own way. I was fortunate enough to find the full series on DVD a while back, can’t seem to find it on Blu ray. Series 3, The Three Gamblers is a particularly creepy episode but again hard to choose!

I’m astonished when people have never heard of or even seen any of Jonathan Creek! Nothing compares to this series on TV anymore.

Goodnight Sweetheart

Goodnight Sweetheart, all my prayers are for you, Goodnight Sweetheart, I’ll be watching over you, tears & parting may make us forlorn, but with the dawn a new day is born..”

Do those lyrics bring back good times?

Now this brings back childhood memories, I believe this used to be on Telly on a Sunday evening, as I recall having to go to bed as soon as the ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ theme tune finished. This truly is a gem of a series and boy do I miss it. I recently discovered this on a streaming platform and have watched every series and forgotten how good it is and how unique it was. Nicholas Lyndhurst plays Gary Sparrow, who by chance, discovers he can travel back in time to the 1940’s, where he meets Phoebe. His life then becomes complicated as he tries to keep two woman happy from completely different decades with hilarious and sometimes sad consequences. Lyndhurst is perfect in this sitcom & great humour. I can’t express how much I adore this series and everything about it is just genius.

Wouldn’t it be great if they did a new series based in this day and age? Mind you, the humour would have to change so it wouldn’t offend anyone! Maybe leave it where it is and enjoy it for what it was at the time. A must see series.

Random Harvest

I have never seen this film on ‘normal TV’. My Dad, as he has done with all films, introduced me to this gem. Random Harvest is a beautiful romantic drama which tugs at the heart strings and the viewer can not help but connect with the characters. Greer Garson plays Paula who falls for & helps a soldier who has lost his memory, ‘Smithy’, played by Ronald Colman, whom you can’t help feeling sorry for. He plays the part so well. Tragedy hits and a surprising turn of events occur as Paula battles against the odds to win back ‘Smithy.’ A beautiful film is a must watch for a lazy dull Spring/Autumn afternoon.
